Block nonpositive cost or price, an unsupported basis, negative rate, margin at or above 100%, invalid currency or period, missing scope, or declared conflicts. After structure passes, compare current price with the converted price. Review a shortfall; use Ready only when the current price clears the arithmetic boundary and the evidence packet is valid.

non-compensating threshold precedence from one cost-price pair through equivalent rate and decision
This original diagram explains the Block-Review-Ready denominator card with synthetic values.

Gate 1: positive cost

A zero cost cannot support a finite markup denominator. This row belongs to the Block-Review-Ready denominator card. Preserve the original value, unit, denominator label, calculation grain, currency, effective month, source class, owner, and confidence rather than keeping only a rounded percentage.

For non-compensating threshold precedence, checkpoint 1 must pass before it supports a decision that preserves validity before preference. Recalculate from the source pair, compare full-precision and displayed results, and correct the accountable field instead of offsetting it with an unrelated favorable assumption.

Gate 2: positive price

A zero price cannot support observed margin or a usable comparison. This row belongs to the Block-Review-Ready denominator card. Preserve the original value, unit, denominator label, calculation grain, currency, effective month, source class, owner, and confidence rather than keeping only a rounded percentage.

For non-compensating threshold precedence, checkpoint 2 must pass before it supports a decision that preserves validity before preference. Recalculate from the source pair, compare full-precision and displayed results, and correct the accountable field instead of offsetting it with an unrelated favorable assumption.

Gate 3: named basis

Require exactly markup or margin before choosing a formula branch. This row belongs to the Block-Review-Ready denominator card. Preserve the original value, unit, denominator label, calculation grain, currency, effective month, source class, owner, and confidence rather than keeping only a rounded percentage.

For non-compensating threshold precedence, checkpoint 3 must pass before it supports a decision that preserves validity before preference. Recalculate from the source pair, compare full-precision and displayed results, and correct the accountable field instead of offsetting it with an unrelated favorable assumption.

Gate 4: valid rate

Markup must be nonnegative and margin must remain below 100% in this target converter. This row belongs to the Block-Review-Ready denominator card. Preserve the original value, unit, denominator label, calculation grain, currency, effective month, source class, owner, and confidence rather than keeping only a rounded percentage.

For non-compensating threshold precedence, checkpoint 4 must pass before it supports a decision that preserves validity before preference. Recalculate from the source pair, compare full-precision and displayed results, and correct the accountable field instead of offsetting it with an unrelated favorable assumption.

Gate 5: evidence context

Require one currency, YYYY-MM period, scope, and no unresolved conflict. This row belongs to the Block-Review-Ready denominator card. Preserve the original value, unit, denominator label, calculation grain, currency, effective month, source class, owner, and confidence rather than keeping only a rounded percentage.

For non-compensating threshold precedence, checkpoint 5 must pass before it supports a decision that preserves validity before preference. Recalculate from the source pair, compare full-precision and displayed results, and correct the accountable field instead of offsetting it with an unrelated favorable assumption.

Gate 6: converted price

Calculate the matching price at full precision before rounding. This row belongs to the Block-Review-Ready denominator card. Preserve the original value, unit, denominator label, calculation grain, currency, effective month, source class, owner, and confidence rather than keeping only a rounded percentage.

For non-compensating threshold precedence, checkpoint 6 must pass before it supports a decision that preserves validity before preference. Recalculate from the source pair, compare full-precision and displayed results, and correct the accountable field instead of offsetting it with an unrelated favorable assumption.

Gate 7: current-price gap

Review a negative gap even when the arithmetic itself is valid. This row belongs to the Block-Review-Ready denominator card. Preserve the original value, unit, denominator label, calculation grain, currency, effective month, source class, owner, and confidence rather than keeping only a rounded percentage.

For non-compensating threshold precedence, checkpoint 7 must pass before it supports a decision that preserves validity before preference. Recalculate from the source pair, compare full-precision and displayed results, and correct the accountable field instead of offsetting it with an unrelated favorable assumption.

Gate 8: sensitivity

Escalate when a plausible alternative cost basis changes the decision. This row belongs to the Block-Review-Ready denominator card. Preserve the original value, unit, denominator label, calculation grain, currency, effective month, source class, owner, and confidence rather than keeping only a rounded percentage.

For non-compensating threshold precedence, checkpoint 8 must pass before it supports a decision that preserves validity before preference. Recalculate from the source pair, compare full-precision and displayed results, and correct the accountable field instead of offsetting it with an unrelated favorable assumption.

Worked control for non-compensating threshold precedence

Run markup, margin, current-price-clear, invalid-margin, invalid-basis, and declared-conflict fixtures while changing only the field discussed in this guide.

The control verifies non-compensating threshold precedence. It does not classify costs automatically, reproduce a private order, recommend a market price, or promise a decision that preserves validity before preference.

Reconciliation and sensitivity

Recalculate observed markup and margin directly from the same cost-price pair, then reconstruct price from the entered branch. The equivalent rate and reconstructed price must agree within full-precision tolerance before display rounding.

Vary one cost-basis row, price state, entered rate, or basis at a time. If a plausible alternative changes Review to Ready, resolve the disputed source or preserve separately named scenarios rather than averaging incompatible evidence.

Block conditions and safe correction

Block nonpositive cost, nonpositive price, unsupported basis, negative target rate, margin at or above 100%, invalid currency, invalid month, missing scope, or any declared conflict. Structural errors cannot be compensated by a high price.

Correct one named field, preserve the rejected value and reason, rerun supported and broken fixtures, and compare exact before and after outputs. A repair that requires hidden offsets elsewhere is not isolated enough to approve.

Bounded decision and action

Use Block before Review before Ready. Review means valid arithmetic but a current price below the entered rate's converted price. Ready means only that the current price clears this declared cost and denominator contract.

Choose one source correction, basis clarification, price experiment, cost action, or explicit no-action conclusion. Define owner, observation window, feedback measure, stop condition, and restoration trigger before changing a public price.

Verification and release controls

Preserve the Block-Review-Ready denominator card, source pointers, deterministic fixtures, tests, build, SEO and content audits, similarity evidence, screenshots, release manifest, backup, and rollback identifier.

Verify canonical, Article and Breadcrumb schema, sources, four explanatory visuals, internal links, privacy, indexability, mobile layout, public response, and live calculation behavior. A green build cannot validate unsupported source evidence.

Limits and privacy boundary

This arithmetic model does not determine accounting profit, taxable income, cash flow, fixed-overhead recovery, customer value, competitor response, demand, conversion, ranking, traffic, advertising approval, revenue, or income.

Keep buyer names, emails, addresses, order IDs, payment rows, bank details, tax identifiers, contacts, tokens, OAuth material, credentials, and raw exports outside the Block-Review-Ready denominator card. Public examples remain synthetic.

Evidence log and review trigger

Store packet ID, nonprivate product alias, cost-basis definition, included and excluded rows, cost, price state, entered rate, basis, currency, period, scope, source dates, outputs, decision, conflicts, reviewer, and rollback reference.

Recalculate when supplier cost, freight, duty, packaging, labor, discount state, refund state, bundle quantity, currency conversion, or rate policy changes. Do not rewrite history; create a dated successor row.

Use the contribution margin calculator when multiple order-variable costs must be subtracted from net revenue. Use the product price floor calculator when fees, discounts, buyer shipping, return loss, and a contribution target must be solved inversely.

Use the listing cost library to version SKU costs before comparing products. A denominator conversion is only as comparable as the cost definition and price state supplied to it.

Exact threshold test table

Test cost and price just below, at, and above zero; basis strings markup, margin, blank, and unsupported; markup at zero and negative; margin at 99.99% and 100%; and current price one cent below and above the converted value.

Structural validity always precedes the price-gap comparison. A high current price cannot rescue an invalid denominator, missing scope, stale mixed currency, or declared conflict.

Block-Review-Ready denominator card completion test

A complete packet lets an independent reviewer reproduce a decision that preserves validity before preference from the declared cost, price, entered rate, and explicit basis without private data or hidden spreadsheet state.

Closure requires exact arithmetic, source alignment, privacy-safe examples, a non-compensating decision, bounded language, one approved next step or no-action conclusion, feedback ownership, and a recoverable prior state.

Positive-cost and positive-price boundaries

Test cost at negative one cent, zero, and one cent while holding price positive. Then test price at the same three points with positive cost. Document which observed and converted equations become undefined or unusable.

Use Block at nonpositive values. Do not substitute a tiny epsilon or silently coerce invalid input to preserve a numeric output.

Basis-string boundary

Test markup, margin, blank, gross margin, mark up, and a misspelled value. Only the exact supported basis names select a formula branch; ambiguous variants must Block and request explicit correction.

Normalization may safely trim case and surrounding whitespace, but it must not infer economic meaning from an unrelated label. Preserve the original rejected string in the audit packet.

Margin-asymptote boundary

Calculate converted prices for 90%, 99%, 99.9%, and 99.99% margin on a fixed positive cost. The price rises rapidly as one minus margin approaches zero. At exactly 100%, the denominator disappears.

Block the 100% case before formatting. Infinity, scientific overflow, a blank result, or zero would all misrepresent the structural failure.

One-cent price-gap boundary

Preserve the full-precision converted price, then test current price one cent below, exactly at the supported currency-rounded boundary, and one cent above. Record the exact comparison used by the decision engine.

The interface may display cents, but the implementation must not flip Ready and Review because a rounded equivalent rate was reentered. Test source inputs and computed values, not screenshots alone.

Evidence-conflict precedence

Add a declared cost-scope conflict to an otherwise Ready packet. Block must replace Ready even though the current price clears the converted price. Remove only the conflict after its source is reconciled.

This precedence prevents favorable arithmetic from laundering unresolved evidence. Record who closed the conflict, what source replaced it, and whether the converted price or decision changed.
