Same-Day Etsy Currency Conversion Example: evidence exercise 1

Reperform open eur etsy fixture with invented same-day and delayed-payout cohorts. Hold source and base currency roles, gross amount, deduction definition, fee base, base costs, retained-order definition, rounding, and evidence controls constant where comparison requires them.

Archive the accepted packet before varying the field. Explain the resulting net source amount, conversion fee, normalized revenue, base costs, contribution, margin, per-order contribution, A-minus-B difference, rate gap, decision, monitoring trigger, and restoration path.

The exercise remains educational and source-linked. It does not fetch a live rate, recommend a transfer or hedge, predict a currency, approve a channel, determine accounting or tax treatment, or replace market-, region-, plan-, payment-, platform-, bank-, contract-, or professional review.

Reperform the Etsy sale-amount fee

The synthetic Etsy packet begins with EUR 10,000 of gross retained sales and EUR 500 of non-conversion deductions. The fee base is entered separately as EUR 10,000 because the cited Etsy guidance describes the fee on the sale amount. At 2.5%, the modeled conversion fee is EUR 250, leaving EUR 9,250 before the entered exchange rate.

Multiply EUR 9,250 by the recorded 1.08 USD-per-EUR rate to obtain USD 9,990 of normalized revenue. Subtract USD 1,000 of costs already measured in the comparison currency to obtain USD 8,990 contribution. With 100 mature retained orders, contribution is USD 89.90 per retained order and the normalized contribution margin is approximately 89.99%.

Those values are arithmetic fixtures, not current shop outcomes. Reproduction still requires the applicable listing currency, Payment account currency, Etsy Payments Sales evidence, sale amount, exclusions, deductions, applied rate, rate date, retained-order cutoff, USD cost scope, owner, reviewer, backup, stop trigger, and restoration record.

Separate browsing currency from seller settlement

A buyer can browse or pay in a supported currency without changing the seller's listing or deposit currency role. Etsy's supported-currency guidance distinguishes buyer display and payment behavior from the currency in which seller funds are deposited. The worked example therefore never treats a buyer-facing converted price as the seller's realized source amount.

The evidence map labels buyer presentment, shop listing, Payment account, bank deposit, and comparison base separately. If a bank later converts the deposit again, record that as another event with its own fee, rate direction, timestamp, and source rather than silently replacing the Etsy conversion.

This role separation prevents double conversion and false margin. It also limits the example: USD 8,990 is a normalized operating comparison under entered aggregates, not a bank balance, functional-currency accounting amount, taxable profit, realized foreign-exchange gain, or recommendation to change the shop currency.
